DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Thursday afternoon, the Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Gregory Walz.
The Fairborn man is accused of dragging a Dayton officer with his car, and slamming him into a concrete wall.
Walz was indicted on four felony charges, including 2 counts of felonioius assault on a police officer, along with vandalism, and failure to comply with the order of a police officer.
The incident happened on June 16th. Walz tried to sell a tub of copper fittings to the First Street Recycling yard on East First Street.
Detective Bullens was investigating whether that copper was stolen.
The yard boss, who preferred to remain anonymous, said, "Jamie was inspecting the vehicle, and the next thing we know, tires were squealing. And this happened with the speed of light. One minute I looked up and Jamie was looking in the vehicle, the next minute, there were tires, and Jamie was gone."
The yard boss grabbed Bullens' police radio, while the yard security guard held Walz at gunpoint.
The yard boss said, "So I hit the panic button on his radio, and got on the radio, and started calling officer down. And whoever was out there issued 99, and it wasn't seconds before I started hearing the sirens."
Police swarmed the scene, and Detective Bullens was taken away by ambulance.
Bullens was released from the hospital late last week. He broke several ribs and suffered other injuries in the accident that could keep him off the job for weeks, or even months.
Walz is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning.
