TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — President Barack Obama has told a crowd in Toledo that Ohio Gov. John Kasich's  remarks about Ohio's improved economy at last week's Republican Convention didn't mesh with the message of others in Kasich's party.

The Democratic president was speaking to a largely union crowd Monday of about 3,000 at Scott High School. He said Kasich was "off script" when he pointed to all the new jobs that have come to the battleground state.

Obama said the governor pointed to his own policies as bringing the jobs to the state, when many were retained as a result of the Obama administration's auto bailout.

Kasich spokesman Rob Nichols says Ohio is doing much better than most other states have under Obama, so it's not from Obama's national policies.
