A list of 30 candidates for new Ohio schools superintendent includes Gov. John Kasich's top education adviser.
The 19-member Ohio Board of Education is searching for a new state superintendent for the second time in as many years. The board hired an Iowa-based firm to conduct a national search to replace Stan Heffner, who resigned amid ethical questions about his relationship with an educational testing contractor.
Among the candidates is Richard Ross, director of the Governor's Office of 21st Century Education. He helped craft Kasich's school-funding plan and is former superintendent of the Reynoldsburg school district near Columbus.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that the list also includes five candidates from Ohio and two currently working overseas, one in Thailand and another in New Zealand.
