DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The Ohio Department of Transportation District 7 recognized Ohio Caverns for reaching a milestone as a member of the Adopt-A-Highway program.
Ohio Caverns has been picking up litter along State Route 245 in Logan County for twenty years. Max Evans, the owner of the Caverns at the time, signed the group up for the Adopt-A-Highway program in 1992. Max passed away last year and his nephew Eric Evans now owns Ohio Caverns and is also the group’s coordinator.
Ohio Caverns is located in West Liberty and is open year-round. It is the largest of all Ohio caves, known for its crystal-white formations. The group mainly consists of summer tour guides. When they are not guiding tours, they do many other things, including roadside trash pick-up. It usually takes two group members about three to four hours to complete a cleanup and they average about three bags of litter picked up. The majority of the litter is bottles and cans. They try to pick up about once a month during the spring, summer and fall.
The following people have recently been booked into Jail. They may not have been convicted of the crimes they are charged with and are innocent until proven guilty.
