DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Four people were injured, including a Dayton police officer when a driver tried to get away from a traffic stop.
Investigators said officers pulled over the Chevrolet Impala at North Gettysburg Avenue and Necca Avenue just before 9 p.m. March 15, 2010. During the stop, police said the driver shut an officer's hand in the car door and drove away. Officers ran back to their cars, but before they could give chase, the suspect had crossed the median, and was driving the wrong way North on Gettysburg, said Sgt. Wendy Stiver. The suspect's car hit a pick-up truck and collided with a Pontiac Grand Am head-on. From there, Stiver said the suspect took off on foot, and threw a handgun before police caught up with him.
All three drivers were taken by medic to the hospital. The suspect was in a guarded room Monday night. Dayton police searched the suspect's vehicle and found crack cocaine, marijuana, and an open alcohol container, said Stiver. Investigators are not releasing the suspect's name.
