WASHINGTON TWP., Ohio (WDTN) - Golden dreams came to an end Sunday as "Music by Prudence" took the Oscar for Best Documentary Short over "The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant." The film focuses on the closing of Moraine's GM truck plant.
The filmmakers, Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert, both of Yellow Springs, travelled to the award ceremony with four former GM workers who were featured in the film. Regardless of the outcome, friends of Bognar and Reichert said the true meaning of the film is shedding light on how the lives of so many were changed with the closing of the plant.
Members of FilmDayton and members of the "Last Truck" crew gathered at Geez Grill and Pub in Washington Township Sunday to watch the awards and support their friends.
"It's a very powerful film and it's told from the worker's perspective, which is the best way to make films," said Aileen LeBlanc, who worked on the documentary. "Nobody can ignore what the GM workers are going through after they watch this film."
Bognar is a founding member of FilmDayton. The organization used the event to raise funds for the 2nd annual FilmDayton festival to be held in May. Find more information here .
