DAYTON, OHIO (Dayton Business Journal) - The Dayton region is in the midst of expansive beer offerings. Last fall, Pennsyvlania brewer D.G. Yuengling & Son began selling its Yeungling beer across Dayton, and now, Budwesier is set to unveil its latest brand to the Dayton market.

This week, Budweiser -- part of Anheuser-Busch Inbev -- will unveil Bud Light Platinum, which has a sweeter taste and higher alcohol content than the regular beer.

Billboards around Dayton said the Bud Light Platinum will be available for sale starting Jan. 31.

"There are opportunities for light beer to expand into new occasions, and we think Bud Light Platinum is the beer to take us there," said Mike Sundet, senior director of Bud Light, in a news release.

Bud Light Platinum, which comes in a cobalt blue bottle, will have a 6 percent alcohol content, significant higher than the 4.2 percent of traditional Bud Light.

The Dayton region is home to Ohio's largest brewery.

MillerCoors -- a joint venture of London-based SABMiller and Molson Coors Brewing Company of Denver -- operates a brewery in Trenton in northeastern Butler County. The local brewery employs 560 people and is the largest brewery in the state of Ohio.

Outside of national and regional beers, Dayton is getting its own beer brands.

The Dayton Beer Company is creating a micro brewery on Dorothy Lane in Kettering, while Toxic Brew Co. plans to open space the Oregon District.
