Scattered snow showers continued across the East on Saturday as cold air continued to pour in from the North. A ridge of high pressure allowed for cold conditions to persist for the Eastern Valleys and East Coast. Daytime high temperatures ranged from 10 to 20 degrees below seasonable, with highs ranging in the mid-30s to lower 40s as far south as the Tennessee Valley and Southeast. At the same time, a weak trough of low pressure moved through the region and allowed for scattered showers to develop. Many areas saw a dusting of snow with accumulation from 1 to 2 inches across the Mid-Mississippi River Valley and into the Tennessee Valley, while higher elevations of the Central and Southern Appalachians saw up to 4 inches of new snow on Saturday.

Behind this activity in the West, a trough of low pressure over the Northern Rockies kicked up a few scattered showers as it pushed a front into the Dakotas. Temperatures ranged in the 30s, which allowed for a combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain showers to develop. Further West, a low pressure system in British Columbia pulled a cold front onshore which brought Pacific moisture into the Pacific Northwest. This created another round of rain showers for Oregon and Washington, with snow at high elevations of the Cascades.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday have ranged from a morning low of -23 degrees at Crane Lake, Minn. to a midday high of 90 degrees at Tucson, Ariz.
