DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - National Night Out is a year-long community building campaign designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Several communities announced activities planned for National Night Out on August 7, 2012.
Lebanon:
The National Night Out event will be held in front of the Lebanon Police Department, 25 West Silver Street, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The roadway on Silver St. from Broadway to Sycamore Streets will be blocked off for static displays from the Elks Club, Lebanon Fire Department, and the police department. There will be entertainment, a bounce house for children, hot dogs, chips, and drinks for all. There will be plenty of crime prevention information and a child identification booth available.
West Carrollton:
The West Carrollton Police Department will host National Night Out at Wilson Park Pool from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7. Organizers expect several hundred people to attend the event which includes a limited quantity of free bike helmets, free food donated by local businesses, demonstrations by the West Carrollton police and fire departments, and a landing by Careflight helicopter. McGruff the Crime Dog mascot is scheduled to make an appearance as well as a canine unit from the Montgomery County Sheriff's office. The event also includes free games and a trivia contest.
German Township:
The German Township Police Department will be holding National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 7th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the German Township building on State Route 725. Ice cream and activities will be offered.
Dayton:
The city of Dayton Police and the Greater Old North Dayton Business Association will host a national night out community picnic and Cruise In at Stuart Patterson Park located on Baltimore Street in Old North Dayton. The picnic includes free hot dogs,chip,drinks,cotton candy and popcorn from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
