DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Neighbors of missing Dayton man Tre Hutcherson said his appearance had changed since he was caught on camera with Xenia mother Tiffany Tehan, who disappeared Saturday, April 17, 2010. They said Hutcherson's beard and hair were much longer in the days he disappeared.
"He looked like a mountain man," one neighbor told 2News reporter Holly Samuels.
Xenia police have been searching for Hutcherson since Tuesday, when surveillance photos from a convenience store on Smithville Road showed him with Tehan in the weeks before they went missing. Tehan's friends and family said they'd never seen Hutcherson before.
Investigators believed Hutcherson was driving his red 1999 Volkswagen Beetle, but that car was discovered Wednesday, April 21, after a tip from a television viewer, said Capt. Doug Doherty, Xenia Police. Doherty said officers found the vehicle north of Needmore Road in Harrison Township, but would not comment on an exact location, the condition of the vehicle, nor what was found inside.
"We know that Mr. Hutcherson was in that car," said Doherty. He said he believes Hutcherson had driven the car since he went missing, but he said he does not believe that Tehan had been in the car.
Investigators said Tehan has not used her cell phone or credit cards since she went missing, although they would not comment on whether Hutcherson left a trail.
Neighbors said Hutcherson and his wife kept to themselves, although many in the Belmont-area neighborhood said Hutcherson often complained about noise, and called the police on multiple occassions. One neighbor said Hutcherson told him he was a police officer, although no record of a law enforcement history could be found.
Police said they still do not know for sure if Tehan is in danger. She never came home after a shopping trip in Beavercreek. Kettering Police discovered her car parked in a lot at Indian Riffle Park Sunday morning.
