DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - It's the kind of scene you like to see at the airport, a big welcome home.

Family welcomed Major Melvin Whitlow, Jr. home from Afghanistan Tuesday.

He's proudly served in the Air Force for 19 years and was overseas this time around for 6 months.

"I just want to thank God for being home, keeping me safe throughout all my travels. Say a prayer for all the servicemen in Afghanistan and those still returning from Iraq," said Major Melvin Whitlow, Jr.

Major Whitlow says he is looking forward to time with family, good food and a hot shower.
