DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A Dayton man was riddled with bullets during a shooting Thursday night. Dayton investigators said the man was shot eight times when shooters fired more than a dozen shots at Highland Park off Wyoming Street at 6 p.m. Calls immediately flooded dispatchers about the shooting, but one neighbor said he walked into the scene just minutes after the shooting.

"There was a guy walking out from the park and people pointing. I walked back over to the street in the direction he was going and saw he was shot, (so) I called 911," he said. "He just was telling people to tell his kids that if anything happens, to tell his kids that he loves them. It was just crazy, that's all he kept saying."

Dayton police said the man is expected to survive. He was listed in stable condition at Miami Valley Hospital Thursday evening. Officers said they believe there is another victim out there, after witnesses reported seeing a man with a gunshot wound to the leg get into a black SUV with a gun minutes after the shooting.

Police said shots were also fired at innocent bystanders who were working on a car in their garage on St. Nicholas Avenue near the park.

"I believe it was a kind of run and shoot type thing. Our victim started running, the suspect started chasing him and shooting, and because of the chaos involved, the two guys who were working in their garage, they cracked a couple of rounds off at them thinking they might have been involved somehow or another," said Sgt. Kelly Hamilton, Dayton Police.

According to jail records, Benjamen Tindall, 18, of Riverside was arrested at the scene and is expected to be charged with felonious assault. Investigators say they're searching for more suspects.

With a crime scene that stretches more than 4 blocks, and little cooperation from the victim or suspect, police said they have their work cut out for them.
