MASON, Ohio (AP) - A southwest Ohio community has looked ahead to July and decided it can no longer afford its big-name Independence Day festival.
Mason's "Red, Rhythm & Boom" celebration has featured music acts such as Huey Lewis & The News and Creedence Clearwater Revisited. On Monday, council members in the city northeast of Cincinnati agreed to suspend the event as part of cost cuts.
Councilman Tony Bradburn tells The Cincinnati Enquirer next year's budget is the toughest he's seen in two decades as an elected city official. It cuts spending by 5.5 percent in the face of declining revenues.
