MONROE, Ohio (WDTN) - Drivers along Interstate 75 in Monroe will once again be greeted by a giant statue of Jesus Christ after crews began installing the massive statue Wednesday.

The new statue, called “Lux Mundi” or “Light of the World,” replaces the previous statue, known as King of Kings or Big Butter Jesus, which was destroyed by a lightning strike in June 2010.
Crews used a large crane to assemble the 7-ton, 52-foot-tall statue just outside of the church’s outdoor theater.
The statue depicts Jesus holding his arms out wide and has already given the nickname “Hug Me Jesus.”
Display Dynamics, Inc. in Clayton created the statue and hopes to be completely done with the project by the end of the month.
And, as for future lightning strikes, the new statue is equipped with a lightening rod.
