LEBANON, Ohio (WDTN) - Lebanon Police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old July 19.

At 7:23 p.m., Michael Guenthner of 794 Miller Road called 911 to report a child had fallen into a pool and was not breathing. Guenthner said the child was being given CPR at the time.

Medics arrived and took the child, Jaelynn McKinney, to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police said McKinney lived at the residence with Guenthner, who is her uncle, and Kimberly Lafferty, the girlfriend of Guenthner.

Lafferty told police she was in the backyard as McKinney played and she went into the house for only a few minutes. Lafferty returned to the backyard and did not see Jaelynn. Lafferty found the child in the above ground pool and immediately began CPR.

Guenthner said he has had legal custody of McKinney since she was nine months old and she has had limited contact from her biological mother and father.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lebanon Police and the Warren County Coroner's Office.
