Carlisle schools weigh more cuts, add May levy

CARLISLE, Ohio (WDTN) - The Carlisle School Board is grappling with its budget.
District leaders met Monday evening in hopes of avoiding a state takeover.
The superintendent says the district is working on a plan to cut nearly half a million dollars to keep the district from falling into fiscal emergency status.
"The reality is there's a point that you reach where there's really nothing left to cut. There is no fluff, there is no fat, every cut is hurting," said Larry Hook, Superintendent of Carlisle Schools.
School leaders say pay to participate fees will likely be increased, high school busing could be cut and more teaching positions could be lost.
The board will ask voters to pass an emergency 5.9 mill levy in May 2013. The levy benefits would take effect in 2014.
