SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A Clark County deputy stopped a driver going the wrong way. He received a surprising answer when asked why.
Few drivers were on North Street early Friday morning when this deputy drove back to headquarters at the end of his shift.
Authorities say the driver was going the wrong way with his bright lights on.
He stopped when the deputy drove up. When questioned about his travels, the driver gave an unusual response.
"The driver believes that he is in the city of Columbus and obviously signs of impairment," said Lt. Dustin White, Clark County Deputy's Office.
Lieutenant White says the man then blew a .18 on the breathalyzer test, well over the legal limit of .08. He was arrested.
"During the interview phase, he's in the back seat of the deputy's patrol car, he continues to explain that he believes he's in Columbus, Ohio. He couldn't give an explanation as to where he'd been consuming here in Springfield."
Charles L. Schwab, 30, has a home address in Columbus. It's still unclear why he was in Springfield or how he got there.
Charles Schwab remains in the Clark County Jail charged with OVI, a seat belt violation and driving in the wrong direction.
The following people have recently been booked into Jail. They may not have been convicted of the crimes they are charged with and are innocent until proven guilty.
