SPRINGFIELD, OH (WDTN) - Ice, snow, and freezing temperatures caused problems in Champaign and Clark Counties.
Champaign County was under a level one snow emergency. Officials there responded to more than a dozen crashes. Sheriff Brent Emmons said two people were injured. The rest were all people sliding off the roads into ditches.
On Springfield Jamestown Road in Clark County, a teen driver on her way to school, ended up underneath a school bus.
Officials said at 10 am on Tuesday morning, the teen rear ended the bus, jamming the front end of her car under it. The bus had stopped to pick up a student when it happened. No one was injured, and the teen was cited.
"The bus had the red lights on., and the car didn't stop in time and rear ended the bus," said Sgt. Terry Bush, of the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
Officials cautioned motorists to take it slow on the roads at
night. They expected streets re-freeze. Officials said blowing snow
and ice would lead to hazardous conditions.
Despite the fact that road crews were plowing and salting
streets, officials said it had been tough to keep up with mother
nature.
"The biggest problem we're having right now is the cold weather. it's preventing the salt from doing it's job," said Champaign County Sheriff Brent Emmons.
