MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) - With even more snow on the way, local firefighters issue a warning about buried fire hydrants.
Firefighters can spend days digging them out after a winter storm.
But, it doesn't take much for them to get buried again.
Moraine Fire Inspector Doug Hatcher said, "The plows coming through aren't really paying attention to it. Their job is to get the street clear. That's when our job kicks in to get that hydrant clear."
Firefighters say it's a tough task to find and uncover them all.
So, they're asking you to shovel out any hydrants near your house.
It's a task that could be a life-saver in the long-run.
Hatcher said, "It's very important. If your house is on fire you want us to get there and get that fire put out as quickly as we can."
If you are not able to clear the fire hydrant near your home, firefighters ask that you at least call and let them know that it's buried.
