DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Monday at noon the new tornado sirens were tested for the first time in Vandalia.
Three sirens were purchased and have now been installed to alert those outside of impending danger. The first siren was placed at the Vandalia Sports Complex, the second at Lichtenfals Park, close to Vandalia High School, and the third was placed at Cassel Hills Golf Course.
The sirens will be sounded on the first Monday of each month at noon for a test. The only other time these sirens will be heard is during a tornado warning.
A tornado warning means that a tornado has been spotted by meteorologists, trained spotters, or other Emergency Services Personnel , or that Doppler radar indicates a thunderstorm circulation which can spawn a tornado. When a tornado warning is issued for your town or county, take immediate safety precautions.
