SIDNEY, Ohio (WDTN) - Update: SWAT standoff in Sidney has come to a peaceful end with the suspect surrendering to officers shortly after 11 p.m. Monday.
Prior to the suspect's surrender, the SWAT team rescued seven children from a hotel standoff in Sidney Monday night.
2 NEWS was there when the emotional reunion took place between the children and their parents.
The chief says the kids were originally on lockdown inside the Travellodge Inn when the standoff with a bank robbery suspect began.
The children belong to two employees of a nearby restaurant. The families live at the inn.
The incident started at 2:56 p.m. when the suspect robbed the Chase Bank across the street from the inn. He fled to the Travellodge.
