SIDNEY, Ohio (WDTN) - He may be facing serious charges, but former Shelby County Sheriff Dean Kimpel is seeking re-election even after resigning.

That's from our partners at the Sidney Daily News.

Kimpel is circulating petitions to become an independent candidate for sheriff this November.

He will go on trial in Auglaize County in May to face allegations he raped, then fired, a former deputy, Jodi Van Fossen.

Kimpel is also awaiting trial in Shelby county on charges he misused a work computer.
