SIDNEY, Ohio (WDTN) - A three month investigation into thefts at the Shelby County Humane Society is over.

Mike Lescowitch, President of the Humane Society, and Angela Bray, Treasurer, were both indicted by a grand jury Thursday.

The indictment says the organization failed to file the proper documentation to continue its non-profit status, but continued to make purchases for 3 years, avoiding paying sales tax.

"I think the fear I have that people give out of the goodness of their heart. They mean well and it gets mis-used and this is the greatest example of that," said John Lenhart, Shelby County Sheriff.

Officials say the total amount mis-used is just over $18,000 and possibly up to $27,000.
