SIDNEY, Ohio (WDTN) - Dean Kimpel, at one time the Shelby County sheriff, was sentenced June 8, 2012, for misuse of a public computer.
Kimpel pleaded guilty in April 2012 to unauthorized use of a computer. He accessed Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway software to check the backgrounds of people for personal reasons. As a result of that plea, four other counts were dropped.
Kimpel was ordered to serve nine months probation and must resign his position as sheriff. He had already stepped aside in October 2011 from his duties as sheriff, pending the outcome the case.
