CAMDEN, Ohio (WDTN) - 13-year-old Dylan Roach committed suicide in May of this year, family and friends are coming together not only to remember his life but also to stop the bullying.
"It's a shame you just got people that picks on people, push them and push them until they push them over the edge," says Panama Collins.
Dylan's death touched the entire community.
"He was just like any kid, just like the boy next door. He was quiet. He liked people and just like a normal kid. Dylan, he had some bullying going on and he just kind of got caught up in it really bad and committed suicide," explains Collins.
So, people wanted to do something for his family.
"They're coping with it. They're just like anybody that you lose. You're going to miss them until the day that you're gone. We're just trying to draw some money up for the family to do some cleaning up and readjusting," comments Collins.
Dylan's Run Memorial Ride kicked off the fundraiser Saturday as more than 110 motorcycles traveled 52 miles in and around Camden. It was followed by a hog roast and silent auction. But, the overall goal was to to make parents aware that bullying does happen and to try prevent more tragedies like this one.
"They need to read to their kids and talk to their kids and know what the kids are really like. You know, because life is too short for somebody that young to do what he did," says Collins.
Organizers hope to raise $5,000 dollars from the event. All of that money will be given to the Roach family.
