EATON, Ohio (WDTN) - Eaton Community Schools joins the growing list of Ohio districts offering an alternative to a calamity day that would need to be made up at the end of the year. They're called e-days, and it's a way for students to learn from home, using the computer. It's all accessed through a link on the district website.
"The students will get their five 'hallelujah' snow days, but beyond that they'll be able to log and get some instructional pieces in a more timely fashion, in a more consistent fashion with the rest of the year," said Cindy Neanen, Director of Education for Eaton Community Schools.
Teachers were asked to put together lessons that could be valuable no matter the time of the year, and the district looked to leaders at Mississinewa Valley for direction, because that district already had e-days in place.
Neanen says it helps to keep forward momentum in learning, despite the weather.
"When the mentality says we're getting out May 30th and now we're going into June, a lot of the kids go on shut down May 30th," said Neanen. "So the instruction is really lost when you tack days onto the end. What this provides is the opportunity to have the instruction remain consistent."
The state requires that all the work completed during an e-day be graded. Students will have two weeks to turn their work in, giving those who don't have internet access a chance to complete the assignments.
Along with Eaton and Mississinewa Valley, the Tipp City and National Trail districts also offer e-days.
The following people have recently been booked into Jail. They may not have been convicted of the crimes they are charged with and are innocent until proven guilty.
