PREBLE COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) - The freezing rain has already started to fall on the Interstate 70 Westbound near the Ohio-Indiana border.
Sean and Victoria Kinney are passing through on their way to Illinois from North Carolina.
They've been driving since 8 am to try to beat the winter weather and stopped at a rest stop to take a quick break.
"We're trying to get to the Chicago-land area before any real bad snow starts to fall. We knew last night that there was going to be some severe weather so we decided to take off early and just drive through the night rather than have to hit it in the morning," explains Sean Kinney.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is already out on the roads and several ODOT trucks have salted this stretch of the highway.
This freezing rain is expected to continue throughout the night and into Friday morning, creating slick conditions and a potential ice accumulation of up to a quarter inch.
So, if you're headed out on the roads, make sure you give yourself plenty of time and be careful.
