Winning the women voters

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Wooing women voters in the swing states, like Ohio, that's what both campaigns are trying to do.

President Barack Obama's camp has launched the "Women Decide 2012" initiative.

Actress Alfre Woodard and White House adviser Valerie Jarrett took a tour across Ohio Friday trying to get women voters fired up for President Obama.

"We have an advocate in President Obama, unlike any advocate we've had before. He was raised by a single mom, making sure she put food on the table and expanding his horizons and we're all getting the benefit of that now," says Woodard.

"Having a President who is willing to fight for equal pay is important. He believes in a women's right to chose what to do with her body, strongly believes in funding Planned Parenthood, believes it's between a woman and her doctor not a woman and her insurance company or her employer," explains Jarrett.

But, Mitt Romney's campaign released this statement to 2 News about President Obama, saying, in part, quote "His policies have made it harder for women across the country to start businesses, get good jobs, or see their children get an affordable college education."

The republican presidential nominee's camp adds since President Obama took office, 5.5 million women have struggled to find jobs.

Stephanie Prater is a single mother of an 11-month-old who says she is one of those women and that's why she's voting for Romney.

"I, myself, have a child, I know how hard it is. I'm struggling as a mother to support my child, financially and the jobs, the good jobs, aren't out there. Yes, I could get a job serving making minimum wage but when you have a family, you need more than that," comments Prater.

Both campaigns are urging women to exercise their right to vote early.
