DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Gingerbread houses are a holiday staple. Some are simple, some ornate. But, they all have yummy gingerbread in common.
The Gingerbread Homes for the Holiday Contest sponsored by the Downtown Dayton Priority Board is no exception. Only the homes crafted there are judged and winners awarded.
The homes were displayed at this year's Grande Illumination at the Old Courthouse in downtown Dayton.
Judges selected first place winners in four categories among a total of 23 entries.
Judges also selected best-of-show winners in the amateur and professional categories, each of whom received a $500 cash prize.
The 2012 winners are:
Professional Best in Show: Donna Brinson-Alexander, Brookville
Amateur Best in Show: Mary Yeagle, Huber Heights
Professional First Place: Sarah Crews, Centerville
Adult Amateur First Place: Sharon Ochs, Centerville
Teen First Place: Ben Snyder, Miamisburg
