DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Members of the Old North Dayton neighborhood heard the final plans to take care of a long time danger.
A member of the United States EPA was at Kiser School Thursday night to tell residents how it will take care of the Valley Crest Landfill.
It's an area northeast of Dayton where companies spent decades dumping toxic waste and pollutants. It's taken decades to clean it up. But, the an end is in sight.
"The plan is a land fill cover over the top of the landfill to prevent exposure to any of the materials on the site. There is also a leachate collection system which collects water under the site to prevent it from getting off the site and we are going to be collecting and treating gas to prevent it from going anywhere," said Dion Novak, U.S. EPA.
The EPA will take comments from the public until September 11.
The final project may take a few years to put into place.
