Apologies from Wesley as the suspect is taken into custody

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A Montgomery County Municipal court judge set bond at $2 million for the man at the center of a murder investigation Tuesday afternoon.

Dameon Wesley, 39, of Dayton, is facing murder, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, felonious assault and a weapons charge a result of a shooting that left one teen dead and another critically injured.

Investigators believe Wesley went to his former girlfriend's home Sunday because he was upset she had ended their relationship and opened fire.  The woman, identified as Dawan Culpepper was not shot, but her daughter, Briona Rodgers, 13, and niece, A'lonta Culpepper, 13, were.

Rodgers was pronounced dead at the scene.  Last checked, A'lonta, was in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital.

Wesley was taken into custody early Tuesday morning after days on the run.

An accident ultimately led police to Wesley.  Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Holyoke and Falmouth avenues late Monday night.  Investigators immediately recognized one of the vehicles as the SUV Wesley was last spotted in, a 1994 tan Chevy Suburban, and called Dayton police. Officers and K-9 units searched the area, but suspended the search around midnight.  However, not long after, police caught up with Wesley near Prescott and England avenues, about a mile from the accident site, and placed him under arrest.

Wesley made no excuses, but apologized to cameras as he was escorted to jail.

"I'm sorry I took your world away from you, Dawan. That was not my intent. I love you with all of my heart. I'm still in love with you and I guess God does get his justice and that is why I'm right here right now," said Wesley."

Wesley remains in the Montgomery County Jail.  He is expected to appear back in court March 8.
