VANDALIA, Ohio (WDTN) - Firefighters were forced to evacuate a six unit apartment complex in Vandalia after flames broke out in one of the front units overnight.
Firefighters arrived in the 500 block of Karns Dr. around 2:30 Thursday morning.
A mom and daughter were living in the front right apartment unit, where fire officials believe the flames started in a front bedroom.
Chief Chad Follick of the Vandalia Fire Department said the building did not have working smoke detectors.
He also told 2 NEWS this was the fourth fire his crews have battled in just five weeks, and three of those fires involved homes without smoke detectors.
No one was injured in the fire, but the Red Cross is helping the mom and daughter with a place to stay.
Fire crews were forced to cut the gas line in the building, so other residents may also be staying elsewhere.
Investigators were still looking into what started the fire, but called it accidental.
