Jury deliberates in China Arnold trial

DAYTON (WDTN) - China Arnold was back in court Thursday, May 12 for the eighth day of her third homicide trial.

Closing arguments started around 12:45 p.m. Prosecutors went over the timeline of events the night that Paris Talley was burned to death in a microwave.

"She (Paris) couldn't start what this defendant started. At any minute this defendant could have stopped it, just one press of a button," said Daniel Brandt, assistant Montgomery County Prosecutor. "She chose not to do that".

Arnold's attorney, Jon Paul Rion, argued the State's case was based only on circumstantial evidence aimed at making China Arnold the villain.

Closing arguments took almost four hours to complete. The jury began deliberations around 5 p.m.

Arnold is accused of burning her 28 day-old daughter Paris Talley to death in a microwave in 2005.

This is Arnold's third homicide trial. The first trial in 2008 resulted in a mistrial. The second, held later the same year, Arnold was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. That ruling was later overturned by the Court of Appeals citing prosecutor misconduct.
