Toddler's killer sentenced to prison

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A Dayton man was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years to life for killing his girlfriend's 2-year old son.
Last month, Joe Watson IV, 27, was found guilty of murder and three counts of child endangering.
Watson was arrested in December 2011 following the death of toddler Levi Barrett. Police records show Watson took the child to Good Samaritan Hospital, but the toddler died of blunt force trauma.
In court he apologized for hitting Barrett and told the judge he "didn't mean to hit him that hard".
Watson also told the judge he only hit the boy one time and it was an isolated incident.
The police and hospital reported that the child had numerous scars and extensive bruising on his body.
Judge Frances McGee said Barrett was failed by his entire family because no one stepped in to stop the abuse.
The child's mother, Michelle Mooty, 23, faces charges of permitting child abuse. She will be in court December 17.
