DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - An arrest warrant has been issued for a former Dayton-area funeral director who prosecutors say never delivered the funeral services she was paid for.

A grand jury returned an indictment of 17 felony counts against Scherrie McLin:

  • Engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity
  • Theft from an elderly or disabled person
  • Grand Theft
  • Forgery
  • Tampering With Records
  • Violation of Pre-needs Contracts

In an announcement of the charges against her, prosecutors said she sold pre-paid funeral packages to at least 12 people who died after giving her money. None of the 12 ever received the funeral they paid for and planned with McLin.

Police began investigating the situation when a family member complained that they never received a funeral.

In all, prosecutors estimate McLin took in $200,000.

The charges announced Tuesday are separate from an investigation during which police recovered unclaimed cremated remains in a home McLin owned. Charges are not expected to be filed in that case at this point in the investigation.
