MIAMI TWP., Ohio (WDTN) - The man who opened fire inside a Walgreens is heading to prison for 50 years.
Michael Fischer, 42, of West Carrollton, received the maximum sentence.
Prosecutors say he walked into the store on Springboro Pike in October 8, 2011 carrying an assault rifle and headed straight to the pharmacy to steal pain medications.
Miami Township police arrived on the scene as Fischer was leaving. Fischer opened fire on the officer who then returned fire. The officer was not hit, but Fischer was struck. He spent some time in the hospital before his release into police custody.
He was found guilty January 14, 2013 of aggravated robbery, felonious assault, kidnapping, vandalism of government property and felonious assault on a police officer.
