DREXEL, Ohio (WDTN) - Community members bundled up for a candlelight vigil in Drexel Monday night to honor fallen Trotwood Officer David Yaney.
Residents lit candles, recited prayers, shared memories and sang songs on West Third street, where Officer Yaney patrolled throughout the years.
"This community is going to be lost without him," said Shilah Spurlock.
Spurlock and fellow Drexel resident, Christine Wade organized the vigil via Facebook.
"A lot of people who live in these neighborhoods don't have cars and were not able to attend Officer Yaney's funeral," said Wade. "We wanted to provide an opportunity for everyone to say good-bye."
Officer Yaney's funeral was held earlier Monday inside the Phillips Temple in Trotwood. Following the service, a procession filled with officers from around the state led down the city streets to his final resting place at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
