DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Congressman Mike Turner has a new title, Chairman of the Tactical Air and Land Force Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee in the next Congress.
"It's good to have someone who sits in this seat who is pro-Dayton, but it's also good to have someone who sits in this seat that is pro-Air Force," said Congressman Turner.
Turner will have host of new responsibilities including authoring legislation. He's relying on
Wright Patt Materiel Commander General Janet Wolfenbarger and Dayton Development Coalition President Jeff Hoagland for help.
The three met privately today to discuss the future of the base and it's impact on the Miami Valley.
"The business of the subcommittee is very important to the Dayton region and to our economy and to the many employees and contractors that live and work in the region and in the state of Ohio," said Hoagland.
Hoagland added the big initiative in our area right now. is unmanned aircraft systems, or UAS's They've been called the future of military and General Wolfenbarger knows just what an important role Congressman Turner could now play in Wright Patt's next chapter.
"Truly Congress is the entity that provides oversight and provides budget to all of the Department of Defense," she said. "So, if there are ways that members like Congressman Turner invite us to provide our perspective, share our concerns to provide information that will be help them make the best choices for the Department of Defense and country, then we are all better served".
