TROTWOOD, OH (WDTN-WBDT) - Most times we hear stories of athletes signing letters of intent to 'play' for colleges around the nation, but at Trotwood High School some seniors sign to play musical instruments.
Trotwood Director of Bands Jason Shelton takes pride in holding a signing ceremony every year.
He says, it's for the students and parents, but also important for the community to see how excited and happy they are for their band members to be heading to college, some on full rides.
Students will attend Tennessee State, Arkansas and Central State here at home.
Shelton says, he's just paying it forward.
"When I attended high school, we had a signing ceremony too. I received scholarship money which encouraged me to have a ceremony here at Trotwood."
"I tell incoming students, if they listen to me and follow what I say, they too will have scholarship money and be sitting here at this same table signing their names to attend college.' Shelton says.
By the way the Trotwood Band heads to Chicago to attend the Battle of the Bands Competition over the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.
