DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - A new trial will be scheduled for a nurse charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of a 14-year-old girl who had cerebral palsy and weighed 28 pounds when she died.
The attorney for 42-year-old Mollie Parsons of Dayton said Monday the judge ordered the mistrial during jury selection after a potential juror made statements last week about whether Parsons was guilty.
Parsons also is charged with failing to provide for a functionally impaired person and tampering with records in the March 11, 2011 death of 14-year-old Makayla Norman.
Authorities say Parsons was supposed to help care for the girl. Norman's mother previously pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and other charges.
The coroner attributed the girl's death to nutritional and medical neglect complicated by her chronic condition.
