TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) - A 13-month old boy was upgraded to serious condition Thursday evening at Dayton Children's Medical Center after police said he was struck by a car in Trotwood Wednesday.
Investigators said Kielynn Jackson is suffering from multiple skull fractures, including a fractured jaw, brain trauma and has severe lacerations to his head and leg.
It happened in front of the toddler's home at 4836 Biddison Avenue in the Meadowlark Apartments.
Police said an 18-year-old woman, who did not have a license, was backing a man's car into a parking space when she lost control, jumped the curb and struck the toddler, who was sitting in a stroller in the front yard.
The toddler was dragged in the stroller for several yards before the car came to a stop.
"I stood here for a minute thinking it was going to stop but it didn't and I ran and tried to get the baby but I couldn't," said Kenyata Henderson, tried to save baby. "I flew over the purple car and had my back on the cement and it messed by back up."
Medics rushed Jackson to the hospital.
Investigators said the woman is cooperating with police. She was not arrested and has not been charged with any crime; however, the accident remains under investigation. Police are also interviewing the man who allowed the teen to move his car.
The Purple Passion 5K run/walk was held at Shawnee Park Saturday afternoon.
