This old house now a new home

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Loretta Booker has become as much a fixture in Dayton's Westwood neighborhood as the houses.

Except that she's aged better.

"It's depressing to see the houses boarded up," Loretta says.

But Loretta got a look at a house Thursday morning that could open the door for other homes to finally get a facelift.

"I'm glad they're reviving the neighborhood and I'm hoping it will catch on," Loretta says.

The home on Brooklyn Avenue was foreclosed on two years ago, but take a tour today and you'd never know it.

"It's like a brand new house," says Steve Nutt with Citywide. "New windows. New mechanicals all the way."

The home is the 13th that Citywide has renovated using federal stimulus dollars.

Already 10 have been sold.

Now this one will be on the market for a price of $55,000, but to the neighborhood it's worth a lot more.

"We've seen a lot of renovation in the houses nearby because it gives neighbors the confidence to invest in their neighborhood because they see good things happening," Nutt says.

Loretta can see all those good things when she walks her familiar path around the neighborhood.

Now she knows others share her vision.

"It could be viable if we could just get our neighbors to keep it up," Loretta says. "That's the important thing."
