DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Today is the first full day of summer but for many they've already had their fill of summer's intense heat.

Wednesday, June 20, much of Ohio saw readings of at least 90 degrees including Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo, Cincinnati and  Dayton.

But it's the relentless heat index that had most of us sweating it out as the combination of the temperature and humidity  which made it feel like it was in the mid-90's.

And summer's sizzling start might be a sign of things to come.

The National Weather Service says most of the country is expected to have above normal temperatures for June, July and August.

But the northeast is seeing the brunt of the hot weather with temperatures expected to be in the mid to upper 90's again today.

Utility companies are sweating too as they continue to worry about all those air conditioners overloading their power grids.

Meteorologist J amie Jarosik says our high in Dayton will top out at around 92 degrees, a full 10 degrees above normal.

But Jamie also says we have the chance for a few cooling showers Thursday night as a much welcomed cool front approaches.
