Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) - According to Ohio Attorney General Mike De Wine, human trafficking has become a world-wide epidemic, enslaving 27 million people, the second largest organized criminal industry in the world  with sale of human beings for sexual exploitation and labor yielding 32 billion dollars annually.

To bring awareness to the problem, two Dayton-based organizations are teaming-up for a candlelight vigil.

Members of Peace on Fifth and the Love 146 Dayton Task Force will be lighting candles to shed some light on the victims as well as the groups accomplishments.

Last year the movement fought for the passage of the Safe Harbor Law, that allows children who are rescued from prostitution to get help from child welfare professionals.

They also held an informative Human Trafficking Summit while utilizing the internet for timely webinars.

On January 11, at 8 PM the groups will lay-out their goals for this year which include pushing for more legislation while keeping the heat on elected officials to crack down on labor trafficking and expanding their outreach for victims and services they'll need.

If you'd like to be a part of the candlelight vigil join them at the Peace on Fifth location, at 908 East Fifth Street, a gift store in the Oregon District that sells products that use no slave labor.
