DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Socks for foster children were donated at the Haines Center in Dayton on Thursday by a pair sisters from Centerville.
Caitlyn and Cassidy Tobin struggled to carry the heavy garbage bags overflowing with new pairs of socks into the center but said the hard work was worth it.
"It makes me feel really good that some kids will have warm feet over the winter or are going to because of our donations," said Cassidy Tobin.
The sisters started collecting socks following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Caitlyn said heard of so many people with nothing and was looking for a way to help folks in her own backyard. So she set up the organization called TOES, which stands for Together Outfitting Everyone in Socks.
Now in its 8th year, the sisters said they are able to collect an average of 1,000 pairs of socks per year to be donated to people in need. Donation barrels are set up at area businesses. Find the list of locations at: www.projecttoes.weebly.com .
There are 700 kids in foster care at the Haines Center, and the center serves 2,000 families in Montgomery County.
