Sinclair given "storm ready" status

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Sinclair Community College was honored Friday by the National Weather Service for being ready for severe weather.

The extensive process for Sinclair included adding an emergency operations center; improving the way the school receives watches and warnings; along with developing ways to warn the community and react to severe weather.

"That definitely makes it easier to handle severe weather and make sure information gets out, and they can take appropriate action. It doesn't mean that you are storm proof, it just means you are better ready to handle those weather situations when they occur."  said Mary Jo Parker of the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service said even as communication and action plans improve, it's still up to all of us to be ready to react when severe weather strikes.

Sinclair is the only community college to receive this certification in the tri-state area and one of ten in the entire country.
