BROOKVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) - Traffic was once again at a standstill on Interstate 70 Sunday night, after the second major crash of the day.

Around 8:30 emergency crews were dispatched to I-70 eastbound on reports of a crash between an SUV and a tanker truck. Two people were initially trapped inside the SUV.

Emergency crews freed the trapped victims and officials said they were taken by medic to Miami Valley Hospital.

Traffic had been moving slowly in the area all afternoon and evening due to an earlier crash in the same area.

Around 4:00 a couple from Pennsylvania was traveling east on I-70 when the driver lost control.  Initially police reported the woman was driving; however, investigators said they have received conflicting reports.

Police said the SUV and camper spun out of control and into the median.  The camper landed on its side in the median, but the SUV on its top in the west bound lanes.  No other cars were involved.

The man was ejected from the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene.  Police believe he was not wearing a seatbelt.  The woman was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation; however, police said witnesses stated it appeared the camper became loose or unhitched from the SUV.

The accident forced officials to shut down traffic in both directions on I-70.  One lane re-opened on both sides just before 6 p.m.

The victims have not been identified in this case.

2 News will have a full report on Dayton's CW at 10 p.m and WDTN at 11.
