DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - When 5-year-old De'Marcis McCutchen walked into his classroom Monday morning at World of Wonder School in Dayton he had a special note for his teacher.

It read in part, "It (Sandy Hook shooting) could have happened anywhere and to anyone.  The feeling of being a parent outside the school makes me that much more appreciative of what you do."

The heartfelt words were written by his mother, Myah, who like countless other parents, is deeply distraught by the shooting that happened at Sandy Hook Elementary school.

"My heart hurts so bad for the parents, teachers and students in that situation," said Myah Foster, De'Marcis's mother.  "I felt it would only be right for me to say thank you.

The letter was just what her son's teacher, Ms. Berro said she needed during this time.

"We are trying really hard to do the right thing and our prayers and thoughts definitely go out to those," said Ms. Berro.  "Its parents like Myah that make our jobs worth while."

Myah's letter was also a prayer answered.

"I had kind of been praying about what to say and what words to say," said Dr Cleaster Jackson, the school's principal.

Myah helped Dr. Jackson find the right words in the wake of tragedy.

"The letter said everything we wanted to say to our staff,  our teachers, and our students," said Dr. Jackson.  Our course we reviewed our safety precautions after the shooting happened.  We have a lot of responsibilities because when parents bring their kids to us, they expect us to keep them safe."
