Rosie the groundhog sees her shadow

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Rosie the groundhog has some news fans of summertime may not want to hear.

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery's resident rodent saw her shadow and you know what that means, six more weeks of winter.

Thursday's event was Rosie's first time in the spotlight.

Ivy made the predictions in year's past, but she has retired.

Our own meteorologist, Tara Hastings, hosted the fun while dozens of children watched and learned.

"They decided to use the groundhog because there were so many groundhogs in Pennsylvania, they thought that the groundhog is very good at surviving. They're who we must look to to predict our weather," said Lauren Stayer, Naturalist for Five Rivers MetroParks.

Pennsylvania's Punxsutawney Phil also saw his shadow while our state's Buckeye Chuck did not.
