DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The American Red Cross opened several shelters across Ohio to provide a safe cool place for residents who have been forced to evacuate from their homes due to the severe thunderstorm damage, power outages and scorching temperatures.

Shelters have been opened in the following locations:

  • Fairhaven Church, 637 E. Whipp Rd., Centerville
  • Vandalia Recreation Center, 1111 Stone Quarry Rd., Vandalia
  • Masonic Temple, 600 N. Main St., Bellefontaine
  • Sidney Middle School, 980 Fair Rd., Sidney

Families are advised to bring along basic emergency and personal items that can help them through the first 24 hours in the shelters, including any necessary medications. Shelters are scheduled to stay open as long as residents are without power.
